Dear ISFC members
Here is the second ISFC bulletin for this year! Since the whole
work of our organisation is based on voluntary work the progress
may seem slow but do believe us: we are progressing!
1. WEBSITE
The design of the website is practically ready! You can have a look at the
draft version at the address:
http://staging.creativengine.net/ISFC/.
Bronwyn (flickerfest@bigpond.com) has been in charge for this
and she has put a lot of time into it this year. We all thank
you, Bronwyn!
The next step is to update the content: - history - statutes
- members - code of ethics - etc. This going to be done by Shane
(ssmith@cdnfilmcentre.com)
and Kirsi (kirsi@free.fr).
If you want us to emphasize or change something, do give us an
email about your ideas.
2. LIST SERV
We are convinced that this private ISFC discussion forum, open for members
only, will be extremely interesting and practical for exchanging information,
ideas, news, putting out your deadlines, find out about films on a certain
theme, discuss about short film's situations in different parts of the world.
Once the website will be set up, the List serve will be opened.
We will include your email address automatically in the list
- up to you then to change your address, choose your password
for accessing the archives, etc.
3. NEW NAME FOR ISFC?
The name of the ISFC is not logical: it is not a conference but an organisation
and it would be good to consider a renewal of the name. Also, it seems that
in order to organise the financial administration of our organisation we
should create an association. This could be done in Australia, where the
biggest investments are being made at the moment, that is for the design
of the website.
What do you think about this? It would be good to keep the same
abbreviation ISFC, known to so many since so many (33!!) years.
Therefore we suggest INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM CONFERENCE (association
could be added in the end for eventual juristic reasons). NOW
it is time for you to react: do you agree?
4. NEXT MEETING
It will be of course in Clermont-Ferrand. This time we will try to get a proper
room for us because last time the open space at the Film Market was quite
noisy.
5. ISFC and SHORT FILM WILL NEVER DIE!
* One of the great things for the ISFC would be to finally create the common
entry form, in this we would be the first in the world!
* Renaissance of the ISFC seminars: one of the most interesting parts of the
activities of the ISFC have been the seminars organized during the general
assembly meetings. In these seminars we have learned a lot about the short
film situation in different parts of the world: Latin America, Spain, Eastern
Europe, Balkans... A lot more is still to be learned. Why not hear about the
situation in France when we will be having our meeting in Clermont-Ferrand?
There seem to be some dark clouds in the short film and festival sky in France
with the government today's policies and restricted budgets.
Remember to speak up and defend the short film where ever you
can, only this
way we can make it live and prosper.
